Choose Yourself

“Once you understand that there are problems just waiting to be solved, once you realize that you have all the tools and all the permission you need, then opportunities to contribute abound. No one is going to pick you. Pick yourself.” – Seth Godin

When I was working as a singer and dancer, it was all about the audition.

I get butterflies just thinking about it.

I would get so nervous. Always wishing–will they like me? Will I get picked for the job? Will they want me? Working as an artist is tough because art is personal. When someone didn’t pick me for a job, it felt like they were rejecting me personally. Because the work and myself were so entwined. I was waiting to get picked, for someone to choose me and tell me I was worthy of success.

So I learned to choose myself. Because I was already enough.

Stop waiting for someone else to validate you, to tell you you’re talented, to pick you. Pick yourself. Choose yourself. Because you are a unique, amazing human being with loads of gifts. You already have everything you need. If you want to sing, go sing. Create your own cabaret show. If you want a raise, build a passionate side business to bring in extra income. You already have the permission you need.

Now’s the time to forge your own path. We need you. Create your own opportunity. Don’t wait around for someone else to decide. Recognize the power you’ve always had within you, and choose yourself.
