When snoring is a good thing

I subscribe to a lot of blogs. Business blogs. Self help blogs. Health blogs. They are wonderful and inspirational, and have made such an amazing difference in my life.

I also try to read as much as I can, watch inspiring and educational videos, surround myself with aspirational messages and media.

But the other day I was just over it.

I was feeling burnt out.

I didn't want to read one more word about hustling, how to sell more, how to quit your day job and create more freedom.

How to think bigger, take risks, get out of your comfort zone.

How I should be drinking more green juice and getting rid of sugar.

I was TIRED.

All I really wanted to do was...take a nap.

Just take a nap and not have to think about anything. Not my to-do list. Not about how I should be marketing this or that. Or how I wasn't doing enough.

I was feeling overwhelmed and overloaded and needed to step away.

Napping and resting don’t come easy to me. I’ve always envied those people who can shut their eyes and be snoring in two seconds. In my case, I'm always thinking of all the things I should be doing instead of napping. My mind races about how I could be using my time more “productively”. How I should be cleaning the apartment, writing a blog, organizing my closet, or responding to emails. The list goes on and on…

Of course, there is a fine line between necessary rest and chronic laziness. Between constant procrastination and consciously choosing self-care. Sometimes we need to get energized and just get the work done. But other times we just need to stop and breathe.

Sometimes the healthiest and most “productive” option is to not do anything at all.

All of those blogs, and advice, and words of wisdom will be waiting for me when I’m rested, refreshed, and ready to consume again. When I’m ready to take it all in. When I have the energy to expand. And my to-do list will certainly still be waiting for me when I’m ready to take it on, so really there is no rush.

Sometimes you just need to stop ingesting. Stop doing. Sometimes you need to just be. And rest. And not feel guilty about it.

So that's what I'm going to do. It’s nap time.

Sweet dreams. :)
